Sydney - My city.

Last Sunday David and I took part in a cruise on Sydney Harbour organised by Qantas as part of its 95th birthday celebrations. The cruise gave us a chance to photograph our beautiful city of Sydney from the Harbour. We were then encouraged to post our photos on Instagram. I admit I'm a newbie when it comes to Instagram but I do love Sydney so this week instead of my usual blog post I wanted to share with you some photos of the city we call home.

Sadly, the weather was against us. It was a wet and overcast day but the Harbour was, as always, beautiful.

The Sydney Harbour Bridge.

An inner harbour commuter ferry. Don't you think it's a great name?

The Harbour Bridge pylons are purely decorative but they do make for a nice photo.

The Sydney Opera House likes to photo bomb  - in this case a shot of the CBD skyline.

Luna Park
Shark Island or Clarke Island - honestly I have no idea! D says it is Shark Island.
Another Opera House photo bomb.

The Maritime Services Board Tower at Barangaroo is soon to be pulled down. I think it's a pity.

The James Craig was launched in 1874. She is one of only a few 19th Century barques throughout the world to have been authentically restored. She is a true restoration, not a replica.

Cremorne Point.

    1. I absolutely agree and there are so many great ways to see it. One day I will do a post on some of our great harbourside walks.

  2. Great photos, great spot. We did a trip from your harbour to the Zoo three years ago now, the guide was great and the water wasn't too rough. Time for another trip x

    1. It is usually quite calm in the inner Harbour, crossing over to Manly can be a bit rough sometimes though.

  3. I think if you are in Sydney it's a must to explore the city via the water. As you've just shown so much to see.

    1. I lived near the Harbour for years and really didn't appreciate it enough. Now I live a little further out I just love it.

  4. Although I logically knew all the ways Sydney has a LOT of harbour and nooks and crannies, I was amazed by just HOW much there were when I went jet boating.

    1. I don't have the constitution for jet boating. I admire you courage.

  5. What a great tour! I love the areas around Middle Head, but have mostly just walked around - I'd love to go on a boat tour. It's a shame you had an overcast day but, as you say, it's all still so beautiful!

    1. If you don't want to go on a tour, take a ferry. You can see a lot from the ferries. We used to do a lot of Harbour walks too. There are so many lovely ones. My favourite is Mosman Bay to Cremorne Pt. I am hoping to review a few of the Captain Cook Harbour cruises in the coming months so watch this space. They are very competitively priced and if you register with Captain Cook you get a free morning tea cruise for your birthday.

    1. It was a shame that the sun didn't come out. I was looking forward to getting some shots of the Harbour on a typical sunny day but I go lucky yesterday and got some stunners from the air. Watch out for the post coming up.

  10. I haven't seen Sydney Harbour for decades but its beauty still never ceases to amaze me. It's changed a lot since I was there so I feel as if I'd miss out if I weren't to return. So gorgeous!

Sydney Opera House photo bomb. Rofl. Thanks for the grin.

  12. I absolutely adore Sydney and fell in love with it the second I arrived there. I would give my left arm to move to Sydney. Well, maybe not as it would be difficult to balance my camera with one hand, but you get the idea. Thanks for sharing the great pics!

  16. Your lovely Sydney is one of the places I'd love to visit. If only there would be an easier way to get there from California ... It's such a long flight! The first thing I'd do there is go the the Opera. Thanks for joining #TheWeeklyPostcard.

  18. I love your photo of Luna Park and have to agree that "Friendship" is a perfect name for a ferry. Your pictures make me want to see and explore Sydney SOON and, now that we're based in Portugal, we're just a bit closer to a visit to your stomping grounds!

    1. It has changed a lot around Barangaroo, which you couldn't even get to twenty years ago but the area around the Opera House, Bridge and Circular Quay isn't all that different.

  22. Great photos of Sydney. We have only been to Queensland, so next time in Australia we definitely must visit your town.

  23. Gorgeous as always. There's a possibility we saw your boat since we were in Sydney that weekend and up by the Opera House Sunday afternoon - was it a black glasslike boat?

    1. No. That wasn't us but I know the boat you mean. It is really distinctive isn't it. It is usually moored in Darling Harbour where David and I regularly have lunch with our son. I think it is called the Starship. We saw it while we were out on the harbour that day.
