Vivid Sydney started on 25 May. If you are in Sydney, don't miss it. Without a doubt my favourite Sydney festival, Vivid draws tourists from around the world. Sadly Vivid often clashes with our travel plans and we manage to miss it about two years in three. 2018 is no different, but this year we got a great consolation prize. We stumbled upon Singapore's Light to Night Festival. Held in January and currently in its second year, Light to Night lights up the majestic buildings of central Singapore in a way which gives Vivid a run for its money. Take a look at my photos and tell me what you think -
Can you see the eyes? |
What do you think? Is it as good as Vivid? Can you see the two pairs of eyes in the first photo - creepy!

I see the eyes! I love the almost anime style of some of the projections. I hadn’t heard of Singapore’s version, and am excited to get to vivid this year. It started yesterday!
ReplyDeleteI am going to miss Vivid again which is disappointing but I am looking forward to seeing all the photos which will no doubt make their way onto social media.
DeleteGreat post, Singapore is magic!
ReplyDeleteI agree that Singapore is magic. We have visited a few times over the past couple of years and always loved it.
DeleteWe don't have many light festivals around where we live, so I am always in awe when I read about them. Vivid Sydney is definitely something I'd love to see someday. As for Singapore's Light to Night Festival, it looks absolutely awesome. Seeing these grandiose buildings dressed is such colorful lights must have been a delight. No doubt a compensation for missing Vivid Sydney. #TheWeeklyPostcard
ReplyDeleteThe only problem with Vivid Sydney is that it is often beginning to get quite cool in Sydney by late May. Vivid itself is stunning but it isn't a great time to visit Sydney generally. I guess Vivid is held in May because it is a slow time tourist-wise.
DeleteBrilliant Lyn. The closest thing I have seen in person is Christmas on 5th Avenue in NYC. The light show is mesmerizing and quite tough to comprehend. But it is not nearly the scale of Singapore or Sydney. Fabulous. Thanks for sharing :)

I would love to spend Christmas in New York, or anywhere else where it snows, but I can't seem to convince my other half - still trying though!
DeleteI can not compare it to Vivid as, sadly, I have not been to it yet. The Singapore version is quite impressive with the building projections. The Auckland version called Bright Nights has a bit of catching up to do.
ReplyDeleteGive Auckland a few years. I think it took Vivid a while before it became as spectacular as it is today. Tell you what, why don't we make a date to get together with our hubbies for Vivid next year. D has promised me we will be in Sydney for it then. Now we live so far out we will treat ourselves to a couple of nights in a city hotel. After that you can come and stay with us and meet out kangaroos and wallabies.
DeleteI've never heard of Vivid before, but I love the photos and would also love to see it come to my hometown (Vancouver).
ReplyDeleteVivid is fabulous. I would be stunning in Vancouver.
DeleteI love light shows. How beautiful with all of those bright colors. So lucky that you got to see it.
ReplyDeleteIt was pure luck. We had no idea it would be on.
DeleteThis festival looks amazing. Is it a yearly thing?
ReplyDelete(sent here by #theweekylpostcard)
I believe it is but I have been unable to find any information on it for 2019.
DeleteWow. Singapore's Light to Night Festival looks fantastic. I've never seen anything like this.
ReplyDeleteYou need to come to Sydney then when Vivid is on. It will blow you away.
DeleteHi Lyn. I'd love to visit Singapore's Light to Night Festival. It' looks amazing! Thx for putting it on my radar.
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure.
DeleteThose night photos are absolutely spectacular!! And what a great 'consolation prize' for not being in Sydney. Loved this post.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you liked it. David and I love Singapore. It makes a great stopover point on the way to Europe and other parts of Asia when you live in Sydney, Australia. Also we have a good friend who lives there so it is always fun to visit and catch up.
